Since the time of the ancient Greeks, pebble floors have been considered a thing of art and beauty. Luckily, as a result of the ingenious people of Indonesia, the pebble tile was created. Thanks to them, the homeowner now has a chance to experience both that natural art and beauty everyday in their own home. These exotic tiles can bring the beauty and feel of nature into your home like no other tile!
Typically the gorgeous pebbles and stones used in these tiles are mined from the shallow bedrock in the Indonesian mountainsides, usually around Java and Bali, but other places as well. They are then sorted for size, color, and thickness. And finally these pebbles are then hand fit into a mesh backing to create a tile which is totally unique. Unique because of the individual stones which make it up, the color of those stones, the pattern, and texture those stones create.
Pebble tile comes in 3 types. The standard pebble tile uses the full body of the stones. This forms an uneven and unlevel surface yet it is this uneven surface which creates a very natural feel. The sliced pebble tile on the other hand, is a tile that is cut or sliced so that it is even. This gives the natural look of the stones and pebbles but also the convenience of a level area to work with. And the last type is the standing pebble tile, which is a tile where the pebbles are cut in half and positioned upright. This type typically uses larger stones and is usually exclusively used as a wall tile, providing a natural look which is also very three dimensional, as the half stones sticking out are larger than the type used in the other two types of tiles.
All three types are most often seen in one room. That room is the bathroom. With the addition of a few plants, these special tiles can transform your bathroom to such an extent, that you can literally feel like you are in a tropical resort or spa. The effect is especially dramatic when using the combination of either normal pebble tiles as floor tiles and standing pebble tiles as wall tiles. However, these amazing tiles can be used in almost any room. They all work great for kitchen and bathroom backsplashes. The normal and sliced variety can be used indoors and out to create a unique natural look on walls or floors, and work very well around pools, patios, and even fireplaces. Sliced tiles, because they are level can even be used for countertops. Because the standing pebble tile is generally used as a wall tile it is great for feature walls, bars, or even on the sides of standing ponds or other water features.
These versatile tiles are great for anyone who loves nature, the outdoors, or just appreciates beautiful spaces. Not only do they come in a few different varieties, but each variety can be used almost anywhere you desire a natural look. These attributes truly make the pebble tile unique.
